World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. They also increase bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.
If the weapon's upgrade template is in %, the weapon will increase 3% of its previous attack damage every time it's upgraded.
The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with item's level.
Components
Upgrade components can be incorporated into trinkets, armor, and weapons in order to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. They can be obtained through making crafts, buying from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades come with special cosmetic effects.

Glyphs
Glyphs are upgrade elements that can be inserted into special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs can boost the performance of nodes within a radius, including any pre-existing attaches. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We recommend upgrading them as fast as possible up to 15 levels.
In the final game you'll find that the best way to enhance your gear is by placing Glyphs. These are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded to level 15 and provide a significant boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

Leveling
The item upgrade system allows players to increase the stats of specific items by inserting upgraded components. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level which determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum level of 385. Each level requires a different amount of components to reach and the cost of upgrading increase as the item is upgraded.
Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or obtained from NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns some Technology Points. These points can be used to level the item, and once enough points have been earned, the upgrade can be claimed and its additional bonuses will be added to the item.
When an individual player upgrade an item, the base item will be replaced with an item that is new. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item also has its own bonus. This could be a drawback because it can cause the item to become more expensive if you do not require it.
The upgrades to items can be rerolled if the player has enough reroll tokens in order to do this. This causes the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will come with the level 1 base, and a completely different set of bonuses. This is a good option for certain items, but it shouldn't be performed frequently, since it can waste lots of resources.
Certain upgrades can be rerolled several times, increasing their value and giving players the ability to alter their gear. When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that, should a weapon gain an increase in its crit chance the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage. Slots is a brand new attribute that has been added to the definitions of items. The value is recalculated each time an upgrade occurs.
The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is based on the rarity rating as well as the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equivalent to its base value.
